As someone of Haitian descent, born in Montreal, Quebec, my connection to Haiti’s history was something I grew into with time. Growing up, I often felt hesitant to embrace my Haitian culture because of the challenges Haitians have faced, particularly in the U.S. But as I grew older and began to learn about Haiti’s history, my perspective transformed.
I fell in love with the story of my ancestors; individuals who, against incredible odds, fought for and achieved freedom, defeating one of the world’s most powerful armies to establish the first Black republic in 1804. I discovered the beauty of Haiti’s natural resources, the resilience and loyalty of its people, and the courage that drove them to become a symbol of liberation and strength. Understanding this legacy gave me a deep sense of pride and purpose, one that I wanted to share with others.
Founding 1804 Realty allows me to embody and celebrate this legacy every day. From the name “1804” to the Haitian coat of arms on our signs, my goal is to inspire pride within the Haitian community and spark curiosity in others.
